Kayla Dortland earned her BSN from Fort Hays State University, Hays, Kansas in 1993. She worked as a registered nurse at St. Mary’s Hospital in Manhattan, Kansas and at Russell Regional Hospital. She completed a master’s degree in the Family Nurse Practitioner program, also at Fort Hays State University in 1999. She then worked in the Family Health Care Clinic of Hays Medical Center and was an assistant professor at Fort Hays State University. She joined Heartland Dermatology in 2000 and became nationally certified in dermatology nursing by the Dermatology Nurses Association in 2002.
